Consensus molecular subtypes (CMS1-4)
The consensus molecular subtypes are four gene-expression groups of bowel cancer: immune (CMS1), canonical (CMS2), metabolic (CMS3), and mesenchymal (CMS4), with different prognoses.
Guinney et al., Nature Medicine 2015. CMS1 (14%) MSI/immune, BRAF-mutant; CMS2 (37%) WNT/MYC canonical; CMS3 (13%) KRAS, metabolic; CMS4 (23%) TGF-β, stromal, worst prognosis. Prognostic and partly predictive (CMS2 benefits most from anti-EGFR), but not yet used routinely in clinic.
