The EASL criteria judge a liver cancer's response by how much of it has died after treatment rather than by its size, an idea later built into mRECIST.
The Barcelona-2000 conference of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (Bruix and colleagues, Journal of Hepatology 2001) set conclusions for managing hepatocellular carcinoma. As Lencioni and Llovet describe, the panel amended the WHO response criteria to take account of treatment-induced tumour necrosis, and response measured this way was associated with outcome. The CDISC codelist holds it as EASL Bruix Liver Cancer 2001.
