The IWG 2023 criteria define complete remission and other responses in higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes, revised so that trial results track outcomes that matter to patients.
The International Working Group response criteria for MDS from 2000 were revised in 2006 and 2018 (the latter for lower-risk disease). For higher-risk MDS, 36 experts using a modified Delphi process (Zeidan and colleagues, Blood 2023) changed the haemoglobin threshold for complete remission, added complete remission with limited count recovery and with partial haematological recovery as provisional categories, eliminated marrow complete remission, and standardised time-to-event endpoints and how responses are derived and reported.
