Some US states have laws that require certain health insurers to pay for fertility preservation, such as egg or sperm freezing, for people whose cancer treatment may cause infertility. Check your state on the Alliance for Fertility Preservation map before treatment starts.
United States, state statutes. The Alliance for Fertility Preservation explains that states have introduced bills requiring certain insurers to cover fertility preservation for cancer patients and others facing infertility as a result of medical treatment (iatrogenic infertility), and that in 2017 Connecticut and Rhode Island were the first two states to pass such laws. Its State List (updated 9 July 2026) names 44 jurisdictions with some legislative activity; whether each has coverage enacted, pending or only previous legislation is shown on an interactive map that could not be read as text, so the enacted states are not listed here.
