Apmonia Therapeutics makes small ring-shaped peptides aimed at the tissue around tumours. Its first medicine blocks a signal that helps tumours suppress the immune system, and is starting its first trial in people with advanced solid tumours.
Apmonia Therapeutics, headquartered in Reims, France, was founded in 2019 as a spin-off of CNRS and the University of Reims (UMR 7369 MEDyC), according to the company, and set up an R&D subsidiary in Liege, Belgium in August 2025. It develops peptide therapies against the extracellular matrix of the tumour microenvironment. Its lead, TAX2 (programme AP-01), is a cyclic peptide that targets thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), designed to disrupt the TSP-1 and CD47 interaction while sparing the CD47 and SIRP-alpha pathway, with the aim of avoiding the blood toxicities of systemic CD47 blockade. A first-in-human phase 1/2a dose-escalation trial (NCT07688148) of weekly TAX2 in relapsed or refractory advanced solid tumours is planned at sites in Brussels, Ghent, Lyon and Villejuif. In July 2024 the company announced it would receive a 2.5 million euro grant and a 7 million euro equity investment as a European Innovation Council Accelerator laureate, and in February 2026 it secured 10 million euros from Capital Grand-Est, FINOVAM Gestion, the Fournier-Majoie Foundation, Angels Sante, new private investors and Capital Cell. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07688148, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in July 2026.
