Atomic Alchemy
Atomic Alchemy set out to build small reactors dedicated to making the radioactive isotopes used in cancer scans and treatments, so hospitals no longer depend on a handful of ageing government reactors. It was bought by the nuclear company Oklo.
Overview
Atomic Alchemy planned the first privately owned reactors dedicated to radioisotope production, starting with molybdenum-99 for technetium imaging and extending to therapeutic isotopes whose scarcity holds back radiopharmaceutical trials. Its YC profile describes a supply chain reliant on six ageing research reactors abroad. The company was acquired by Oklo, an advanced fission developer, which announced the deal in late 2024 and closed it in 2025; Oklo is not an OnCo record so the acquirer is named only here. Isotope production at scale remains a plan rather than an operating facility.
