Biodexa Pharmaceuticals is a Cardiff company developing eRapa, a new form of the drug rapamycin, in a large trial for an inherited condition that causes bowel polyps and cancer, and MTX240, an early drug for gastrointestinal stromal tumour.
Biodexa Pharmaceuticals PLC, of Cardiff, describes a pipeline for gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST), familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and type 1 diabetes. In April 2024 it licensed eRapa, an encapsulated formulation of the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin, from Emtora Biosciences. A registrational phase 3 trial of eRapa in FAP, 168 patients randomised 2:1 against placebo at about 30 sites in the United States and Europe and funded largely by grants from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, passed the half-way point of recruitment in August 2026; a phase 2 investigator-initiated trial in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer is run by the University of Texas, San Antonio. In February 2026 it licensed MTX240 from Otsuka, a molecular glue for GIST.
eRapa is a new form of the drug rapamycin from Biodexa Pharmaceuticals, designed to be absorbed more reliably. It is in a large trial in an inherited condition that causes many bowel polyps, and a smaller trial in early bladder cancer.
MTX240 is an early drug from Biodexa Pharmaceuticals for gastrointestinal stromal tumour that kills tumour cells by a route that does not depend on the KIT protein, which matters once standard tablets stop working.
