Phaxiam Therapeutics (formerly ERYtech Pharma)
ERYtech Pharma was a Lyon company that encapsulated the enzyme asparaginase in red blood cells (eryaspase) for leukaemia and pancreatic cancer; after its phase 3 pancreatic trial failed in 2021 it merged into Phaxiam, which now works on bacteriophage therapy.
Overview
ERYtech Pharma, based in Lyon and listed on Euronext and Nasdaq, developed eryaspase (Graspa), L-asparaginase loaded inside donor red blood cells to prolong its action and reduce hypersensitivity, for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and metastatic pancreatic cancer. The phase 3 TRYbeCA-1 trial in second-line pancreatic cancer missed its survival endpoint in 2021, and in 2023 the company merged with Pherecydes Pharma to form Phaxiam Therapeutics, which develops phage therapy for antibiotic-resistant infections. It appears on OnCo as a lead sponsor of phase 3 cancer trials on ClinicalTrials.gov.
