ProfoundBio
ProfoundBio developed antibodies that deliver a chemotherapy drug to ovarian cancer cells carrying a protein called folate receptor alpha. Genmab bought the company for 1.8 billion dollars in 2024.
Overview
ProfoundBio was a privately owned, clinical-stage Seattle biotech developing next-generation antibody-drug conjugates and ADC linker-payload technology. Its lead asset rinatabart sesutecan (Rina-S) is a folate receptor alpha (FRα)-targeted topoisomerase 1 inhibitor ADC designed to treat a broader FRα-expressing population than first-generation FRα ADCs; at acquisition it was in the phase 2 portion of a phase 1/2 trial in ovarian cancer and other FRα-expressing solid tumours, and had received FDA Fast Track designation in January 2024 for FRα-expressing platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. Genmab agreed in April 2024 to acquire ProfoundBio for USD 1.8 billion in cash, gaining three clinical-stage candidates and the ADC platforms; the deal closed in May 2024 and the ProfoundBio domain now redirects to genmab.com.
