Quetzal Therapeutics is developing an arsenic trioxide capsule for acute promyelocytic leukaemia, so that patients could take treatment by mouth instead of spending hours on a drip in hospital.
Quetzal Therapeutics launched in July 2025 with USD 50 million of committed capital (launch release datelined Chicago) to develop therapies for rare haematological cancers and other rare diseases. Its lead product QTX-2101 is an oral capsule formulation of arsenic trioxide for acute promyelocytic leukaemia, supported by comparative pharmacokinetic data from a phase 1b trial sponsored by Syros Pharmaceuticals; it received FDA Fast Track designation in January 2026, and the first patient was dosed in June 2026 in the pivotal phase 3 QUATRO-APL trial in newly diagnosed low-risk APL, which compares oral QTX-2101 with intravenous arsenic trioxide during consolidation, both with ATRA (NCT07504458). QTX-2102 is a preclinical antifungal and antiparasitic programme. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07504458, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in March 2026.
