Syncona
A London-listed investment company that founds and funds UK life science companies and holds them for the long term. Its cancer companies include the CAR-T company Autolus and the precision oncology firms iOnctura and Mosaic Therapeutics.
Overview
Syncona was co-founded as Syncona Partners in 2012 by Martin Murphy and the Wellcome Trust, merged with the Battle Against Cancer Investment Trust in December 2016 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE 250 constituent (Wikipedia). It operates as a permanent-capital vehicle that creates companies from academic science, leads their early rounds and holds through the clinic. Its portfolio page groups companies by stage. Oncology holdings include Autolus Therapeutics (commercial CAR-T), iOnctura ('a clinical-stage oncology company developing innovative therapies for neglected and hard-to-treat cancers'), Mosaic Therapeutics (biomarker-defined drug combinations; Syncona led a GBP 22.5 million Series A in 2022) and Yellowstone Biosciences (soluble T-cell receptor therapies for acute myeloid leukaemia). Previous holdings include Blue Earth Diagnostics and the T-cell company Neogene Therapeutics.
