Torqur is a Swiss company developing bimiralisib, a drug that blocks the PI3K and mTOR growth signals, as a tablet for cancer and as a skin gel for actinic keratosis, a sun-damage skin condition that can turn into skin cancer.
Torqur AG, based in Basel, was founded in 2021, according to the company, under the umbrella of Swiss Rockets AG, a Basel incubator, after acquiring the assets of Piqur Therapeutics AG, a University of Basel spin-off co-founded in 2011 by Vladimir Cmiljanovic to develop bimiralisib. Bimiralisib is a balanced pan-PI3K/mTOR inhibitor formulated for oral and topical use; the company states it has shown early clinical activity in several phase 1/2 studies. In August 2026 the European Commission granted oral bimiralisib orphan designation for thymic epithelial tumours, its first in a solid tumour, and the company also reports a collaboration with Lonza on the drug. Its only study registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT06319794, a randomised phase 2 proof-of-concept study of topical bimiralisib gel in actinic keratosis, a precancerous skin lesion, was posted in March 2024 and is completed; it is not a cancer treatment trial.
