Family history collected by app and matched to testing criteria automatically
Doctors rarely take a full family history. An app that gathers it from the patient and checks it against testing guidelines would find many people who qualify.
Tools such as MeTree and CanRisk exist but are not integrated into routine care. Propose EHR-integrated patient-entered family history at every new-patient visit, auto-matched to NCCN or NICE criteria, with automatic referral or mainstream testing.
Hypothesis
Automated capture increases identification of guideline-eligible individuals at least three-fold and testing at least two-fold.
Rationale
Eligibility is common (about 5-10% of adults) but rarely detected.
What would test it
Run a cluster RCT in primary care networks.

- Inherited risk is mostly unidentified · Most people who carry a high-risk cancer gene do not know it until they or a relative gets cancer.
