Finland's national cancer organisation: twelve regional cancer societies and five patient groups, a free nurse helpline and chat, and the Finnish Cancer Registry.
The Cancer Society of Finland is a patient and public health organisation made up of 12 regional cancer societies and five national patient organisations, each independent. It maintains the Finnish Cancer Registry, which records every case of cancer in Finland and includes the mass screening registry that directs and evaluates national screening. The Society shares a strategy, board meetings and a Secretary General with the Cancer Foundation, which its site describes as the largest private funder of cancer research in Finland at over €5 million a year. A free helpline (0800 19414) and a nurse chat on kaikkisyovasta.fi are open to anyone. UICC lists it as a Full Member; its profile gives 1936 as the founding year and records membership since 1962.
