Denmark's national cancer charity: free counselling for patients and relatives across the country, a cancer hotline, prevention work and its own cancer research centre.
Kræftens Bekæmpelse is a private membership organisation that says 97 per cent of its income comes from the public and 3 per cent from the government. It divides its work between research, prevention and support for patients and their relatives. It funds cancer research at Danish hospitals and universities and runs its own research centre, the Danish Cancer Institute. Its counselling centres and local services are free, and it also runs a cancer hotline (80 30 10 30), online counselling and a patient forum, Cancerforum. It reports nearly 400,000 members and more than 35,000 volunteers. UICC lists it as a Full Member and its profile records membership since 1962.
