Egypt's society for cancer specialists: scientific meetings such as the Best of ASCO in Egypt, training for oncologists, and community outreach on prevention and early detection.
The Egyptian Cancer Society was founded in 1991 as a branch of the Egyptian Medical Association and is now an independent non-profit association, registered as a separate entity in September 2014. Since 2011 it has held an annual Best of ASCO meeting in Egypt under an agreement with the American Society of Clinical Oncology, so that oncologists who cannot travel to the United States can hear the main research at lower cost. Its aims include raising the medical knowledge of oncologists in Egypt and the Arab countries, advancing prevention, diagnosis and therapy, and community outreach. Membership is open to all cancer-related specialties, medical or not; many of its board members are professors at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. It does not issue licences. UICC lists it as a Full Member.
