Japan's national cancer charity since 1958: it promotes cancer screening through its regional branches, runs a free cancer hotline, and organises Relay For Life and the Pink Ribbon Festival in Japan.
The Japan Cancer Society is a public interest incorporated foundation (公益財団法人) founded in 1958 and based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; its chair is Tadao Kakizoe, honorary president of the National Cancer Center. Its timeline records that screenings by its group organisations reached ten million in a single year in 1993 (counting repeat attendances), that a free telephone consultation with doctors began in 2002, and that its Cancer Hotline started in 2006. It also runs Relay For Life Japan, the Pink Ribbon Festival, a cancer survivors' club, free phone advice on cancer and work from social insurance consultants, research grants and cancer education. UICC lists it as a Full Member.
