Osaka-area university hospital whose gastroenterology and hepatology department, under Masatoshi Kudo, has led many of the global trials of liver cancer drugs, including REFLECT of lenvatinib.
Overview
Kindai University's Faculty of Medicine and its hospital in Osakasayama, south of Osaka, run one of Japan's largest hepatocellular carcinoma programmes. The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, chaired by Masatoshi Kudo, was the lead centre for REFLECT, the 2018 Lancet trial that showed lenvatinib was non-inferior to sorafenib in unresectable liver cancer, and has led or co-led the trials of atezolizumab-bevacizumab, durvalumab-tremelimumab and transarterial therapies. The faculty also has a strong medical oncology department in lung cancer.
