Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital
Ghana's second-largest hospital, in Kumasi, with one of the country's two public radiotherapy centres and an oncology directorate serving the north and middle belt.
Overview
Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Ghana's Ashanti region and the northern half of the country, and the teaching hospital of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology School of Medicine and Dentistry. Its Oncology Directorate provides radiotherapy, chemotherapy, paediatric oncology and palliative care, and with Korle Bu in Accra it is one of Ghana's two long-standing public radiotherapy centres. The hospital contributes to research on breast cancer in West African women, Burkitt lymphoma and cervical cancer screening, and trains clinical oncologists through the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
