Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital opened in 1923 and is the main teaching hospital of the University of Ghana Medical School and the largest hospital in West Africa. Its National Radiotherapy, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, established with IAEA support in 1997, was one of the first radiotherapy centres in the sub-region and provides external beam and brachytherapy, chemotherapy and nuclear medicine; the hospital also runs surgical, gynaecological and paediatric oncology and haematology services. Korle Bu and the University of Ghana are lead African partners in studies of triple-negative and hereditary breast cancer in West African women, prostate cancer genetics, Burkitt lymphoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, and the hospital hosts the Accra cancer registry and trains oncologists across Anglophone West Africa.
