Li Ka Shing Foundation
Li Ka-shing's foundation, which since 1980 has given more than HK$30 billion, mostly in China and Hong Kong, including free hospice care for tens of thousands of poor cancer patients and the building that houses the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.
Overview
Founded in 1980, the Li Ka Shing Foundation states that Mr Li has invested over HK$30 billion in it, with more than 80% of projects in mainland China and Hong Kong. Its cornerstone project is Shantou University, founded in 1981 and supported with HK$12 billion, which it describes as the only privately funded public university in China. Its Heart of Gold hospice programme in Hong Kong ran from 2007 to 2020 through 10 centres and served over 38,000 low-income terminal cancer patients and their families with palliative care. In Cambridge, the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is housed in the Li Ka Shing Centre on Robinson Way.
