A New Orleans research consortium of LSU Health New Orleans and Tulane, created by the state legislature to build cancer research, education and prevention programmes for Louisiana.
The Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC) was created in 2002 by the Louisiana State Legislature as a consortium of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans and Tulane Health Sciences Center. Its stated aim was to build a consortium cancer centre worthy of designation by the National Cancer Institute. It says its membership includes more than 200 researchers and that it maintains shared resource cores for laboratory, clinical and population sciences research, including a biospecimen lab, biostatistics, genomics, imaging and proteomics. Its research strengths include molecular genetics and signaling, proteomics, immunology, viral oncology, drug discovery, and minority health and health disparities. Its research building at 1700 Tulane Avenue, completed in 2012, has 32,000 square feet of laboratory space. Its home page says it was established to improve cancer outcomes and to attain an NCI-designated cancer centre in the state; it does not claim that designation now. Its latest filing with the IRS reports revenue of about $25.1 million (tax year ending 2025-06).
