Sydney institute treating and studying more melanoma patients than any other centre in the world, whose co-directors Georgina Long and Richard Scolyer led the trials that established combination immunotherapy.
Overview
Melanoma Institute Australia grew out of the Sydney Melanoma Unit and is affiliated with the University of Sydney, Royal North Shore and Mater Hospitals. It treats and follows more melanoma patients than any other centre and holds one of the largest melanoma biobanks. Its co-medical directors, Georgina Long and Richard Scolyer, were Australians of the Year in 2024; Long led the COMBI-AD adjuvant trial and neoadjuvant immunotherapy trials such as NADINA, and Scolyer's pathology work defines how melanoma is staged.
