A US foundation, founded by patients in 1999, that funds research into the myeloproliferative neoplasms (essential thrombocythaemia, polycythaemia vera and myelofibrosis) and keeps patients informed about it.
MPN Research Foundation was established in 1999, as the MPD Foundation, by Robert Rosen, a Chicago businessman diagnosed with polycythaemia vera in 1997, and a small number of other patients, according to its mission and history page. The page says it was the first organisation dedicated to the myeloproliferative neoplasms, invests in original research towards new treatments for essential thrombocythaemia, polycythaemia vera and myelofibrosis, and has awarded more than $20.1 million for MPN research. It describes its role as bringing together patients and caregivers, researchers and clinicians, and industry, and sharing updates on research, drug development and clinical trials with the MPN community. The IRS records it in Chicago, Illinois, with tax exemption issued in February 2000.
