The US Department of Defense's cancer centre of excellence at Walter Reed in Bethesda, Maryland, which runs translational cancer research and a clinical trials network with other military treatment facilities.
The John P. Murtha Cancer Center is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Its research programme (MCCRP) is a sponsored program of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences with a translational research footprint at Walter Reed. The centre was dedicated to the late Congressman John P. Murtha in 2012, and the university's page records it as founded on 15 September 2011 and designated a Department of Defense Cancer Center of Excellence on 22 May 2012. The Walter Reed cancer registry, run under the centre, holds records of patients diagnosed or treated there since 1 January 1992. Walter Reed's own page for the centre refused automated reading, so this record rests on the university's page. Its research includes the APOLLO proteogenomics projects, a partnership with 19 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers through the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN), and a Military Cancer Clinical Trials Network.
