Cancer research institute founded at the University of Adelaide in 2021 and directed by Christopher Sweeney, who led the CHAARTED trial that brought docetaxel into first-line treatment of metastatic prostate cancer.
Overview
The South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI) was established at the University of Adelaide in 2021 with Australian government funding to link cancer genomics and immunology with clinical trials. Its founding director, Christopher Sweeney, returned from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 2022; he was first author of the 2015 New England Journal of Medicine report of CHAARTED, in which adding docetaxel to androgen deprivation lengthened survival in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. It works alongside the Royal Adelaide Hospital and SAHMRI.
