The children's cancer and blood centre of Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, the larger of New Zealand's two children's cancer centres and its national stem cell transplant service; a Children's Oncology Group member.
Starship's Blood and Cancer Centre provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment and long-term follow-up for children and adolescents with cancer and non-cancerous blood conditions, and runs the haemopoietic stem cell (bone marrow and cord) transplant service for New Zealand. Its pages say all children and younger adolescents with cancer in New Zealand are treated either at Starship or at Christchurch Hospital, and that Starship is the larger of the two. Most of its trials are phase II or III treatment trials run through international collaborative groups. For families outside Auckland, care is shared with local hospitals through clinical nurse specialists, and the centre works with the Child Cancer Foundation, Canteen and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. It is a member institution of the Children's Oncology Group.
