Overview
The University of Western Australia in Perth hosts the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD), a joint centre with the Institute for Respiratory Health and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where Western Australia's history of blue asbestos mining at Wittenoom has produced one of the world's largest mesothelioma cohorts. Anna Nowak, medical oncologist and dean of medicine, led the DREAM trials of durvalumab with chemotherapy in mesothelioma and chairs the Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group's mesothelioma programme.
