Iran's national bowel cancer screening programme, using a stool test in people aged 50 to 69, reached about one in seven eligible people in 2018 and 2019.
A cross-sectional report of 2,669,625 people aged 50 to 69 assessed for colorectal cancer screening at health centres in 2018 and 2019, from the integrated electronic health record (SIB). Primary health workers recorded risk factors and offered a faecal immunochemical test; positive results were to be referred for colonoscopy.
A national screening programme exists and runs through primary care, but coverage was low and the paper calls for colonoscopy capacity to be prepared before screening expands.
