In Germany, people with cancer and their families can get free emotional and practical counselling at a local cancer counselling centre; the free INFONETZ KREBS line (0800 80708877) tells you where the nearest one is.
Deutsche Krebshilfe states that in psychosocial cancer counselling centres, patients and their relatives receive advice and help free of charge. It set up a strategic programme to fund such centres in 2007, which it says substantially improved outpatient psycho-oncological and psychosocial care, and campaigned for years for them to be funded as a regular part of care; since 2021, health insurers cover 80 per cent of the costs of outpatient psychosocial cancer counselling. News about the centres is published by the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft für ambulante psychosoziale Krebsberatung. Deutsche Krebshilfe's INFONETZ KREBS line, free on 0800 80708877 from Monday to Friday between 8 and 17 o'clock, gives the addresses of centres near the caller.
