NHS Jewish BRCA Testing Programme
Anyone in England with a Jewish grandparent can order a free NHS saliva test for BRCA gene changes, which raise breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancer risk.
Overview
People of Jewish ancestry carry BRCA1 or BRCA2 founder variants far more often than the general population, and most carriers have no family history that would qualify them for testing. The NHS Jewish BRCA Testing Programme removes the family-history gate: adults in England with one or more Jewish grandparent register online, receive a saliva kit at home, and get their result with genetic counselling if a variant is found. The programme is run by NHS England with the charities Jnetics and Chai Cancer Care, and the website sets out who is eligible and what a positive result leads to (surveillance, risk-reducing options, cascade testing of relatives).
