CDC National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program
In the US, women with low income and no or little insurance can get free or low-cost breast and cervical screening through a CDC-funded programme in every state.
Overview
The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program has funded screening for uninsured and underinsured women since 1991. It works through grantees in every state, several tribes and territories, which arrange mammograms, Pap and HPV tests, diagnostic tests when screening is abnormal, and referral to treatment; in most states women diagnosed through the programme can get Medicaid coverage for treatment. Eligibility is by age, income and insurance status and the CDC page links to the local programme, which is where a woman applies.
