Carthera
Carthera is a French company whose SonoCloud implant, fitted in the skull after brain tumour surgery, sends ultrasound pulses that briefly open the blood-brain barrier before each chemotherapy dose.
Overview
Carthera, founded in 2010 from work at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, developed the SonoCloud-1 and the larger nine-emitter SonoCloud-9, unfocused ultrasound implants placed in the bone window after tumour resection and activated with intravenous microbubbles to open the blood-brain barrier over a wide region. It has run trials in recurrent glioblastoma with carboplatin and in brain metastases, and is preparing pivotal studies.
