Stella Pharma
Stella Pharma is the Osaka company that developed borofalan (Steboronine), the boron drug approved in Japan in 2020 alongside Sumitomo's accelerator for boron neutron capture therapy of head and neck cancer.
Overview
Stella Pharma was founded in 2007 to develop boron carriers for BNCT and brought borofalan (10B), a boronophenylalanine preparation, through Japanese trials with Sumitomo Heavy Industries' cyclotron-based system to approval in March 2020 for unresectable locally advanced or recurrent head and neck cancer. It is listed in Tokyo and is studying further indications, including melanoma, angiosarcoma and glioma, with academic BNCT centres in Japan.
