TAE Life Sciences
TAE Life Sciences is developing boron neutron capture therapy, in which a boron drug collects in cancer cells and a hospital-based neutron beam then triggers a tiny nuclear reaction inside those cells to destroy them while sparing nearby healthy tissue.
Overview
TAE Life Sciences develops an accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) platform licensed from fusion company TAE Technologies. Alphabeam is a compact, tunable low-energy neutron source designed for installation inside a hospital radiotherapy department. In BNCT a boron carrier accumulates in tumour cells and neutron capture releases an alpha particle and lithium nucleus with a range of about one cell diameter, giving cell-level targeting. The company launched in March 2018 with a USD 40 million Series A led by ARTIS Ventures and an agreement to deliver its first system to Neuboron Medtech in China. In September 2025 it signed an MOU with the University of Wisconsin-Madison to become the first US Alphabeam site with trials in head and neck and brain cancers, and reported preclinical data showing its boron compounds plus checkpoint inhibitors outperform either alone. Device and drugs remain investigational.
