Overview
Sumitomo Heavy Industries, an engineering group founded in 1888, supplies isochronous cyclotron proton therapy systems with scanning gantries to hospitals in Japan, South Korea (Samsung Medical Center), Taiwan (Chang Gung Memorial Hospital) and elsewhere, and its HM-series cyclotrons produce fluorine-18 and other PET isotopes in hospital radiopharmacies. Its accelerator-based neutron source for boron neutron capture therapy was approved in Japan in 2020 for head and neck cancer with Stella Pharma's borofalan.
