Overview
Nektar Therapeutics, listed on Nasdaq, built its business on PEGylation and polymer conjugate chemistry licensed into products such as pegfilgrastim-type molecules and movantik. Its own oncology bet, bempegaldesleukin (NKTR-214), a PEGylated interleukin-2 designed to favour effector T cells, was developed with Bristol Myers Squibb in a large phase 3 programme with nivolumab that reported negative results in melanoma, renal cell carcinoma and bladder cancer in 2022, after which the programme was closed.
