PharmaEssentia is a Taiwanese biotechnology company whose long-acting interferon ropeginterferon alfa-2b (Besremi) is approved for polycythaemia vera, a chronic blood cancer, in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Overview
PharmaEssentia, based in Taipei and listed on the Taipei Exchange, developed ropeginterferon alfa-2b, a mono-pegylated interferon given every two weeks, as a disease-modifying treatment for polycythaemia vera and other myeloproliferative neoplasms. Marketed as Besremi, it was approved in the European Union in 2019 through its partner AOP Health and by the FDA in November 2021, the first interferon approved for the condition in the United States, and is in phase 3 trials for essential thrombocythaemia. It appears on OnCo as a lead sponsor of phase 3 cancer trials on ClinicalTrials.gov.
