Poseida Therapeutics
Poseida developed off-the-shelf CAR T-cell therapies made from healthy donor cells rather than from each patient, for multiple myeloma and B-cell cancers. Roche bought the company in early 2025 for up to about $1.5 billion.
Overview
Poseida Therapeutics was a clinical-stage company pioneering donor-derived (allogeneic) CAR T-cell therapies, with non-viral piggyBac gene engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Lead programme P-BCMA-ALLO1 is an allogeneic BCMA-directed CAR T for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma with RMAT and Orphan Drug designations. P-CD19CD20-ALLO1 is a phase 1 allogeneic dual CAR T in B-cell malignancies, also being investigated in multiple sclerosis and lupus, and P-MUC1C-ALLO1 is a phase 1 allogeneic CAR T in solid tumours. Several programmes were already partnered with Roche under a 2022 collaboration. Roche agreed in November 2024 to acquire Poseida for $9.00 per share in cash plus a contingent value right worth up to $4.00 per share, a total of up to about $1.5 billion, and the merger closed on 8 January 2025. Legacy programmes continue within Genentech and the former Nasdaq ticker PSTX was retired.
