Toshiba builds carbon-ion therapy facilities, including the superconducting rotating gantry at HIMAC in Chiba and the heavy-ion centres in Kanagawa, Yamagata and at Yonsei in Seoul.
Overview
Toshiba's energy systems subsidiary, spun out of the parent in 2017, carries the group's accelerator business. It built the world's first superconducting rotating gantry for carbon ions at the QST HIMAC facility, and supplied the heavy-ion synchrotron facilities at Kanagawa Cancer Center, Yamagata University and the Yonsei Heavy Ion Therapy Center at Severance Hospital, which opened in 2023 as South Korea's first carbon-ion centre.
