Universal DX
Universal DX is developing Signal-C, a blood test to screen for bowel cancer and pre-cancerous growths, and has partnered with Quest Diagnostics to offer it in the US once regulators approve it.
Overview
Universal DX (UDX), incorporated in Spain in 2012 and headquartered in Madrid, develops cell-free DNA blood tests for early cancer detection. Its lead assay, Signal-C, uses next-generation sequencing of methylation and fragmentation patterns in circulating DNA with machine learning to detect colorectal cancer and advanced adenomas. In a 1,000-patient study at Digestive Disease Week 2023 it showed 93 percent sensitivity for colorectal cancer and 54 percent for advanced adenomas at 92 percent specificity. A 15,000-patient, 100-site FDA registrational trial (NCT06059963) enrolled its first patient in January 2024, with Quest's Lewisville, Texas laboratory as the single testing site. UDX announced a Series B initial close of about $70 million in November 2023 including Quest, completed in August 2024 with new investor Olympus Innovation Ventures.
