Helio Genomics sells HelioLiver, a blood test that combines DNA chemistry, protein markers and patient details to find liver cancer earlier than the ultrasound scans usually used for surveillance.
Overview
Helio Genomics, based in Irvine, California, develops AI-driven blood tests for early cancer detection. Its lead product, HelioLiver, is a laboratory developed test for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients under surveillance for chronic liver disease, combining cell-free DNA methylation markers with protein tumour markers (AFP, AFP-L3, DCP) and clinical variables in a machine-learning model. The pivotal CLiMB trial, described as the largest prospective multicentre US study of its kind, was presented at EASL 2024 and published in the Journal of Hepatology in May 2026; the company reports roughly four-fold higher stage I detection than ultrasound. HelioLiver launched in December 2021 with Fulgent Genetics, which also made a strategic investment of undisclosed size, gained a Category I CPT code in 2022 and has been offered through Quest Diagnostics since March 2026.
