Birmingham's children's cancer and blood disorder centre, run by Children's of Alabama with the University of Alabama at Birmingham; a Children's Oncology Group member.
The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders is a partnership between Children's of Alabama, the UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation, and the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, working with the National Cancer Institute and the Children's Oncology Group. It says it cares for more than 2,000 children and young adults with cancer, sickle cell disease and other blood disorders, including leukaemia, lymphoma, brain and spinal cord tumours, bone and muscle tumours and kidney and liver tumours. It describes itself as the only dedicated paediatric blood and marrow transplantation programme in Alabama, and says it increased its clinical trials from 75 to more than 100 over two years. A physician's referral is needed for a first appointment.
