A non-profit cancer hospital in Silchar, Assam, that serves the Barak Valley and says no patient is turned away for lack of money.
In 1992 a group of citizens formed the Cachar Cancer Hospital Society because the only cancer hospital in the region was in Guwahati, far from the Barak Valley. With land from the Government of Assam and donations, the Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre opened on 10 February 1996.
The hospital describes itself as non-profit and pro-poor, offering prevention, early detection, surgery, radiotherapy (external beam and brachytherapy), chemotherapy including paediatric oncology, molecular oncology, pain and palliative care and home care. It runs an oncology nursing course. The hospital's page records that Dr Ravi Kannan received the Padma Shri and the 2023 Ramon Magsaysay Award for building care in which no patient is left behind for lack of money.
