A Delhi charity that sends free palliative care teams to the homes of people with cancer, and runs a helpline and counselling, founded by survivor Harmala Gupta in 1996.
Harmala Gupta founded CanSupport and registered it as a society in Delhi on 8 November 1996. In 1997 it ran a six-month pilot home care project with the Dr B. R. Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital at AIIMS, and it went on to build a home-based palliative care service.
CanSupport says it runs the largest home-based palliative care programme in India, with free home care, counselling and a helpline, and that WHO has recognised it with a Public Health Champion award. It became a registered medical institution with an oral morphine licence in 2005, developed guidelines for home-based palliative care in India at WHO's invitation, and has extended home care to Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
