Fundación Arturo López Pérez
Chile's largest dedicated cancer institute, a non-profit foundation founded in 1954 and the country's most active site for oncology trials and advanced radiotherapy.
The Fundación Arturo López Pérez was created in Santiago in 1954 under the will of businessman Arturo López Pérez to fight cancer in Chile, and its Instituto Oncológico is the country's largest cancer-only hospital. FALP provides surgical, medical and radiation oncology, haematology and bone marrow transplant, nuclear medicine and palliative care, was the first Chilean centre with robotic cancer surgery and stereotactic and intraoperative radiotherapy, and runs one of Latin America's most active clinical research units with a large portfolio of international registration trials. The foundation also operates preventive medicine and screening programmes, a tumour bank and research into gastric cancer, which is unusually common in Chile, and gallbladder cancer, for which Chile has among the highest rates in the world.
