The foundation Michael Milken started in 1993 after his own diagnosis; it funds prostate cancer research worldwide and helped pay for the science behind two of the drugs men now take.

Founded in 1993 by Michael Milken after he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, the Prostate Cancer Foundation funds investigators and teams rather than running its own labs. Its history page credits $8 million of PCF funding toward the development of abiraterone (Zytiga) and $14.75 million toward enzalutamide (Xtandi), and a $65 million partnership with the US Department of Veterans Affairs in 2016 that set up 22 precision oncology centres of excellence for veterans. PCF runs Young Investigator and Challenge awards, an annual scientific retreat, and awareness campaigns. Headquartered in Santa Monica, California.

Treated for prostate cancer from 1992, he gave MIT $100 million in 2007 to build an institute that puts engineers and cancer biologists under one roof, and MSK $150 million in 2015 for a new outpatient cancer building.
Diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 1993, the financier founded the Prostate Cancer Foundation, whose grants helped pay for the science behind abiraterone and enzalutamide and built a network of precision oncology centres for US veterans.
Co-developed imatinib's successor dasatinib and the prostate drug enzalutamide, and explained how cancers resist targeted drugs.
