The only major hospital in Israel's Negev region and the teaching hospital of Ben-Gurion University, with a large oncology institute serving the south.
Overview
Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba is the sole tertiary hospital for the Negev, serving more than a million people including the Bedouin population, and is the teaching hospital of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev's Faculty of Health Sciences. Its oncology institute provides medical oncology, radiotherapy, haematology, paediatric oncology and surgical oncology, and the hospital's research, using Clalit's health records, is known for large-scale epidemiological studies. A new dedicated cancer centre has been developed on the campus to expand radiotherapy and outpatient capacity for the region.
