Overview
The University of Pisa and its hospital, the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana, run one of Europe's largest thyroid disease units. The Endocrinology Unit's thyroid cancer group, led by Rossella Elisei, coordinated EXAM, the phase 3 trial reported in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2013 in which cabozantinib lengthened progression-free survival in progressive medullary thyroid cancer, and studies the prognostic value of RET mutations and calcitonin doubling time.
