Siegel 2017: Cancer statistics, 2017

Siegel and colleagues projected 1,688,780 new cancer cases and 600,920 cancer deaths in the United States for 2017. The cancer death rate had fallen 25% from its 1991 peak to 2014, which the authors translated into about 2.1 million fewer cancer deaths than if rates had stayed at the peak. The report highlighted that the gender gap in cancer incidence had narrowed and that the racial gap in mortality had shrunk substantially since the early 1990s.
